I was a professor at Yale and New Zealand.  I was robbed at gunpoint in front of my Yale office.  In New Zealand, the T.V. show "Cops" had an episode where the worst crime in the capital city Auckland was [i]attempted[/i] drunk driving.

Subsequently, I saw the mob of students shrieking at professor Nicholas Christakis.  His wife left the university at the end of the year, but there were no sanctions for the students.  That confirmed my impression that professors are not safe there.

And what exactly did you see that “confirmed your impression that professors are not safe there?”  I would agree, though, that if you’re not up for having a passionate conversation with a diverse group of outspoken students regarding your own publicly expressed opinions, then Yale — and likely many top tier US schools — is probably not a good fit for you.
