While it's nice that you appreciate him for sending your child to school, what has he done to protect children from gun violence, the leading cause of death for children?  Nothing.

Don't listen to Chap when he says that [url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GfZHi8_39Sg]he voted down assault weapons bans[/url].  As a fellow Dem, I cannot forgive Chap for how he continues to permit loose gun regulations, including assault weapons.  In 2020, Chap was one of four conservative democrats [url=https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/virginia-politics/why-northams-assault-weapons-bill-never-really-had-a-chance-in-the-virginia-senate/2020/02/23/64e02b6c-5334-11ea-929a-64efa7482a77_story.html]who voted against banning sales [/url]of assault weapons in committee.  His words: “You can’t discount people that were raised and grew up in this state and have their own traditions. You can’t just suddenly kick them to the curb.”  Senator Petersen would do well to learn the impact of an AR-15 on the human body.  A doctor who testified for Congress after the Uvalde massacre shared that the child victims were [url=https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/sandy-hook-survivors-speak-time-share-heartache-happening/story?id=85329720]"decimated and decapitated"[/url] by an AR-15.

In April 2021, he threw several tantrums on the Senate Floor around [url=https://lis.virginia.gov/cgi-bin/legp604.exe?212+sum+HB1992]HB1992 (2021)[/url] after then-Governor Northam attempted to expand penalties around firearm possession on individuals with assault and battery charges.   To anyone who has not voted yet, I'd encourage you to listen to the floor discussion around the 6 hour 15 minute mark [url=https://virginia-senate.granicus.com/MediaPlayer.php?view_id=3&clip_id=4224]here[/url].  It's appalling to watch him argue that domestic violence offenders should get their gun rights back.  [/quote]

Chap got an F from the NRA (though to be fair he got higher grades in the early 2010's).  He must be doing something right on the gun control front...[/quote]
