Another Hispanic parent here!  I hear you, about the dog whistles. My kid is at a “lower ranked” majority Hispanic HS doing just fine. They are able to play multiple sports, gain many leadership positions, take honors/AP classes without the cut-throat environment of the higher ranked schools. I am sure there are mental health issues, but none that I know of are related to kids feeling too much pressure to get perfect SAT scores!  My DC has made many friends, attends sports games, feels safe, just does not like the vaping in the bathrooms!  Challenged academically?  Yep!  Kids from this school are going to UVA, Tech, JMU and some OOS publics and privates. Of course, fewer will attend college for multiple reasons ($$, language barrier, grades), but the kids that put in the work and had some family support will probably do well in life, and will be better off than their parents!  Isn’t that what we all want for our kids?  Some of thses students are just starting way behind kids in wealthier areas! Being able to attend GMU might be the jackpot for a low income URM!  It’s all about perspective. [/quote]
