This.  And you think teachers are quitting now?  Wait until MCPS pushes year-round schools.  I’m not a teacher but have family and friends who are teachers.  They are burnt out and I can’t imagine any of them would support year-round school.  [/quote]

It is hard to work a PT job and teach FT during the year so a lot of us have FT summer jobs outside of MCPS (not summer school).  When I had to work during the summer to support my family before those first full paychecks arrived in late September, losing eight weeks in a row of a summer job would have hurt my household financially. But I make enough now that I can set aside a summer’s worth of expenses from twenty paychecks.

I think that first short summer would be extremely hard because you’d skip the recovery phase. However, brand new teachers or veterans returning from long leaves wouldn’t notice as much. [/quote]
