Huh, Biden faiths down requests for disaster assistance https://www.foxnews.com/politics/biden-admin-turns-down-ohios-request-disaster-assistance-toxic-derailment So we have an inept head if dept of transportation who is letting our railways and highways crumble. And now we have a president refusing assistance to Americans who need help. Maybe I’d the citizens of Ohio identify as Ukrainians the Biden administration will actually get up and do something? Absolutely disgusting. Of course Biden is just sticking up for his buddies in the rail industry - which is why he busted up a strike last year
It’s sheer evil to refuse to allow FEMA to help those poor people in a crisis of this magnitude. We’ll all regret it soon enough. There are many Amish farmers in that part of Ohio.
m “You are eligible for FEMA assistance when you have problems that aren’t covered by third parties,” said Tierney. “The system is set up so taxpayers are the payers of last resort.”
Everyone knows that lawsuits take years to settle. We pay FEMA to jump in for immediate support. Funny how both Joe and Pete were so entrenched in our rails. Heck, I was there when our Transportation Secretary did a huge media event at my local Amtrak Station in Old Town, Alexandria. He’s oh so proud of our rail infrastructure. What the heck happened to all our rail infrastructure investment? Where did it go?
I’m sorry but I will take the word of the actual proper officials than your “everyone knows” fuzzy claim. Maybe that’s why we can’t agree. You trade in innuendo rather than facts.
Simply name one lawsuit of this magnitude that settled within days. You can’t.
Who are you replying to? Nobody has ever made that claim. Don’t you want to save taxpayer dollars by having the responsible parties pay?
The people affected are in need NOW. They had to pay for hotels, food, and other expenses. Some are still not able to return home. Many of these people are low income. Businesses are closed. There is no way for them to earn an income. People who farm for a living will be without income for years to come. Would you purchase food from farmers who grow crops in this area?
https://www.cincinnati.com/story/news/2023/02/17/east-palestine-train-derailment-what-we-know-friday/69914276007/ Residents were allowed to return home last week and were told they could safely drink village water on Wednesday. … U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown called on DeWine to declare the derailment a disaster, which would open the state to receive more federal resources. However, DeWine's office said Ohio isn't eligible for federal disaster relief because the derailment didn't cause property damage, which is part of the criteria for assistance.
Would you believe them? Did you know anything about Erin Brockovich? Do you know that 1st responders were told that the air around the twin towers was safe? Many of them have well water which they cannot drink or use to bath in. How can they stay home? Property damage includes the land around their homes. The farmland. The areas where animals graze. It is simply unacceptable that these people cannot get immediate help. And, as for FEMA and "property damage." They have made payouts for the funerals of those who died from Covid. How does that involve "property damage?"
But FEMA doesn’t pay the first dollar. FEMA comes in if it is too much for the state to handle and reimburses and supports the state and local response. I’m all for helping them but this is a small community so how many people need assistance? It seems like something Ohio could handle with some backup from FEMA. Similar to a tornado response, not a major hurricane or earthquake.
