you could try size 7 diapers if he's small enough, i hear they work better than goodnites.
It's been years since my kids were in diapers, but the OP said her kid was 7. I seriously doubt a kid that age would fit in a diaper, not I don't think at that age they'd agree to wear something that goes on like that, as opposed to the convenience of slipping on a pull up. OP, does the kid wake up when an accident occurs? Aren't the goodnites just like larger sized pull ups? I'd just leave a stack of them in his room, and tell him that if he wakes up for any reason in the MOTN, check and see if his goodnite is soggy, if so - swap it out for a fresh one before going back to bed after wiping off. I think giving him some independence and responsibility to manage this for himself will help immensely and give him self esteem for handling things himself.
I have been holding off posting to this thread as I don’t usually post on the bedwetting threads for one reason or another but decided to chime in here. I too have 3 kids. All boys. We have potty trained them all the same including night training. The older 2 were out of diapers and dry at night by 3. My youngest who is 7 still wets every night, and has his entire life. We have done no diapers and lifting at night, setting alarms, double and triple voiding before bed, no liquid after a certain time, you name it. I think some kids are just different. As for a 7 year old fitting in a diaper I guess it just depends on the kid but most 7 year olds I’m around are like my son and skinny as a toothpick. My son still fits in a diaper easily. And yes goodnites are just like a bigger pull-up and a pull-up is just like a diaper that pulls on. The difference is goodnites are more expensive than pull-ups, and pull-ups are more expensive than diapers. Also diapers seem to hold more. Or maybe they just fit better. We have tried both goodnites and regular pull-ups which leaked a lot. Maybe it depends on how you approach the situation but my son doesn’t mind diapers at all. He’s not embarrassed in the least to wear them. He is a very confident kid though. Maybe some kids would be different. I’m just glad mines not.
I previously posted that my almost 7 year old (in August) still wears a diaper to bed. He too is small for his age and shockingly can still wear a size 4. We are probably going to size up the next time we have to buy some. It doesnt seem to bother him either. He "prefers" them to having to wake up in a wet bed. During the summer thats all he wears to bed and doenst care who sees him wearing one. I am happy that he isnt embarrassed over it but, I still would like him to care a little if you know what I mean. He has no issues lounging around in the morning in a diaper until I see him and make him go change. On the rare occasion he is dry, when I tell him to go change, he will flat out tell me that he is dry and will change in "a little bit". I know I have to pick my battles but he seems almost too comfortable wearing one of that makes sense. But on the otherhand, he (we) HATE having to wake up to a wet bed in the morning. Like you mentioned, pull ups cost more than diapers and you get less in a pack for the price. And again, like you, pull ups we would still have a wet bed 2-3 times out of the week. Does it bother yours at all that he still wets the bed? I know you mentioned that he isnt embarrassed to have to wear a diaper. We really want to get him a new mattress because you can only clean and flip a mattress so many times and I cant get rid of the faint pee odor. He still has his old toddler bed but I dont know how he will feel about going backwards from a full size to a toddler bed.
I’m the poster you quoted with the other 7 year old still in regular diapers at night. Sounds like our boys are very similar. Mine is in a size 6 but they fit just fine. Not tight at all. And yes he definitely wishes he didn’t wet the bed but much prefers the diapers to a wet bed. Also like your son, now that school is out for the summer he will lounge around in the morning in his wet diaper. I don’t like this and will tell him to go change immediately. He just wears a diaper to bed and is not embarrassed to be seen in it by family. He does get embarrassed if his brothers have friends over and they see him. I’m surprised at how much they hold. His diaper is very heavy every morning.
Do we have twins?? lol I am at a loss for words as to why my son isnt bothered wearing one when out of bed wide awake in the morning....a wet one at that. I never get mad or upset with him for wetting the bed because I know he cant help it. But I do get on him about being lazy and not changing in the morning. The rule here is that he doesnt leave his room until he changes but I constantly catch him not doing that. How is he when traveling or spending the night elsewhere? For night time, its bath, potty, snack, small drink of water, brush teeth, another potty try, diaper and in bed. I have tried waking him which I hate because he is a bear to go back to sleep. Limiting drinks. Making him try to go multiple times before bed. And I read somewhere that a teaspoon of honey has helped other kids. That didnt work either. Half the time he tells me he doesnt have to go and will actually argue with me over just trying to go! I dont post a lot here but I wish I could reach out to you by email or something so we could bounce ideas off one another. I guess I should feel a little relieved that there are others that are going through the same thing.
