I think it’s a huge assumption that Michelle is the final candidate.
Agree. I bet they appoint an interim (cpugh cough Sloan cough cough) and start over. Hopefully without the expensive search firm that produced mediocre results, but given the level of disfunction, probably not.
They would be wise to make Sloan Presidio the acting superintendent and leave it to the next School Board to appoint a permanent replacement. He is a decent person and better qualified than Lockard, who was the interim after Garza quit. It will cost the county a lot of money if the current SB appoints a new superintendent and the next School Board quickly decides to replace her and has to buy out her contract. And there doesn’t seem to be anything close to wide support for Reid, with both the conservative groups and the NAACP already lined up against her.
Yep. Once both conservatives and the NAACP hate you, it’s over before it starts. The “first to close schools” thing is a silly Open FCPS talking point. Remember March 2020? No one knew what we were dealing with, the photos out of China were awful, urban centers like NYC were being decimated, we didn’t know kids aren’t as effected, there were no tests and no PCP. And if we had stayed open, teachers, at least, would have died. And China wasn’t being open about COVID. Closing schools spring of 2020 to get a handle on the virus and impose mitigation was the right call. At the time, it was not at all controversial. I don’t think any schools stayed open. My much bigger question is whether she got school open in fall 2020 and what model she used. That’s what’s important.
