Nah…. Group outed themselves at the BoE meeting by booing in public for pro-mask parents. Who are the bullies again? Reprehensible group of people.
You know its a group of over 2,000 members. And do you also know that some of the people that were there testifying against the mandate aren't even in the group? Of course you don't know that. Because you would rather spew verbal diarrhea than actually sound like informed person
Not the PP. No one said it’s everyone in the group. It’s the same people who show up at every board meeting. It’s the ones who insist on testifying over and over, taking spots from other people, without saying anything different or offering new insight. As a county, we are all sick of them. No one said they testified today. I do see their faces in the audience as I’m there. Have fun defending a sinking ship of adult infants.
Yeah. I'm with you. And FWIW, I'm in that group. And the thread on FB in that group is chastising them for their bad behavior. But the PP seems to be suggesting that this some coordinated attack by the group. It's not. Its just a couple of jerks yelling.
I'm in the group too but after what I saw today, I'm out. They've become more and more toxic and as time has worn on, they've become exactly like the people they claimed to despise when the group first started. They are just not my people and I don't want my name associated with them. I wish there was a group that was more of a middle ground - this is not it.
You’re not entirely wrong, but good luck finding any group where everyone is well-behaved. Did PAGES dissolve after one of the admins encouraged people to submit false positive covid test results to MCPS?
All these groups seem to get the extremest on each end. It would be nice to have a regular group of reasonable people.
If you find a group, let me know. I left last week after the SMOB crap.
That seems like a really odd reason to me. I think most people would agree there was nothing wrong with the initial post calling attention to the remarks made by the SMOB at the school board meeting. What was wrong were the offensive responses on Twitter, but there’s no reason to think those were made by anyone in the group. I remember those posts, and I looked at the accounts who posted them. I couldn’t always tell where people were from, but when I could tell, they were almost always from people in other parts of the country. When those replies started, members of the group tried to call on people to be civil. And when that wasn’t enough, they deleted the initial post. What more could you have expected? The more troubling thing to me has been the number of antivaxxers and conspiracy theorists in the group. They’re still a fringe part of that group, but they’re a hard fringe to control.
I hear you but the leaders of that group don’t think the SMOB position should exist in the first place and they have made disparaging comments about that on more than one occasion. I think that, coupled with drawing attention to the SMOB’s comments, was really unfair and designed to create negative sentiment towards this student and it did. I can’t forgive a group of old women picking on a kid, especially a group that hangs their hat on being “mental health professionals” every chance they get. And whether the group likes it or not, kids actually look up to the SMOB and there are kids who are genuinely interested in running for the position. Not only is dragging the SMOB unfair but it potentially discourages students from wanting to run and speaking up on important issues because they fear blowback. And yes the antivax, anti-mask, conspiracy stuff was out of control. They don’t know how to control those posters - they are allowed to post over and over again, violating the rules and end up drowning out the voices of others. Back in the Fall of 2021 there was a particular poster that the group’s leaders seemed to love who was clearly anti-vax. I hope they disband now that their work of removing masks has been accomplished.
