wow - the anger in this thread is sad. It's terrible that the APS community is so divided. I do believe the administration has to have some fault here, but let's everyone try not to be so angry at each other!
I think that the people who circle the wagons and defend APS and Duran no matter what are being short sighted. I'm a Biden and McAuliffe voter but now we've got Youngkin and Miyares because people are so angry about the schools. Probably a Republican Congress next January. You might even get Trump back. If you keep saying people are dumb and angry and unreasonable for wanting their kids to be in school and receive high quality instruction, they are going to stop listening to you and vote for the other guys.
Shame on anyone who voted for Youngkin just because of schools. Sayings like "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" are cute, but when that leads someone back to supporting Trump (and Trump cronies) its downright dangerous, idiotic, and a slew of other things. Look, I get that people want their kids in school. I want my kids in school. I hate some of the things APS has done, but I appreciate a lot more. It is a hell of a lot easier to sit on this anonymous board criticizing people for how they're acting in an unprecedented an constantly evolving situation than to actually be the one(s) making the tough choices. There are enough angry people on this board that I think it is clear any superintendent would have people calling for him/her to go. Its been barely 6 weeks since I first heard of omicron and now we're in the largest surge of the pandemic. Models vary in predicting when the surge will end. Its all just constantly changing.
Shaming people for their votes is a great way to win them back next time. You don't have to like the reasons people vote the way they do, but those people are here, and they vote. In fact, many of them were voting for Democratic candidates until recently. The only way to win is to win those votes back somehow.
