The obfuscation, even though obvious, makes it harder to track and pin down this mysterious middle man who help recruit Cawthorne into the scheme. Also inviting them to dinner could leave a trail if the hotel uses a computer for reservations. They can go back and pull the reservation and contact info. The fake CrossFit competition helps remove even that little bit of a paper trail back to the recruiter.[/quote]
