Just love seeing the HYPSM prestige defense squad getting owned over and over again. Most of them wouldn't have the stats to be admitted into Northwestern or UChicago, so why the fuss?
I guess people are amused - or scratching their heads - cuz what’s the big deal with NU? How does it differ from Vandy, Emory, Rice, U of ND, USC, Georgetown, JHU, WashU? These are all great schools. So what?
Well, first of all, why are you bringing that existential question into a thread about a donation that Northwestern received? The fact that you are reveals more about your intentions and insecurities than it does anything about the school itself. Second, if you really want to play this game, Northwestern routinely outranks every single one of the aforementioned schools (with the exception of JHU) across various metrics and criteria, and pretty much always have. I absolutely agree that all those schools are great, including Northwestern. There's more than enough love to go around !
Ummm... it’s not about me, this thread isn’t about me, my alleged insecurities,.... it’s about NU. Go ahead, tell us how it differs from these other great schools whose rankings always go up and down and trade places.
Lol when has NU ever traded places with Vandy, Emory, Rice, ND, USC, Georgetown, or WashU? I'm also not even talking about rankings. Look at alumni achievements, notable prizes and awards, academic reputation scores, research output, etc. Northwestern and JHU are routinely considered above these other schools. If you want to keep your head in the sand and keep claiming otherwise, that's great! Have fun at wherever you or your kid ends up. And again, why are you asking about this in a thread about a donation that NU received? That just screams jealousy of some sort, born from a misguided belief that Northwestern doesn't deserve a donation of this size anymore than these other schools you've listed. Or you're just weird af and have issues with picking up on social cues.
It’s not about me and definitely not about my kid. So how does it really differ cuz I am sure these great schools have their share of honors.
If you're asking in earnest, then do your own research. Since you're the one that's suggesting something contrary to what's established, the onus is on you if you'd like to provide new evidence or data. In a variety of metrics and criteria that most people would consider in evaluating an institution's strength, Northwestern (and JHU, since you mentioned it), outpace the other schools you've mentioned.
If I were in the Chicago and surrounding area, NU is seen at or a notch below how DMV people view JHU. Got it.
What? That’s not even true, and that doesn’t prove or disprove anything?
It proves NU is at or just below JHU. JHU is a great school. NU must also be a great school. This message got lost in all the insults in this thread.
