Correct. The date is random. Here’s what I think would work best. Federal employees you get 11 floating holidays per year. Use them whenever and for whatever reason you like. Religious reasons, historical reasons, national pride reasons, personal belief reasons, whatever. Then, it’s still fine for fed. and SLTT governments to recognize special dates with pomp and circumstance, but no more set holiday dates. Even Christmas, New Years and Independence Day should no longer be sacrosanct. Meanwhile, I am happy we decided to recognize this historical date [b]even though the name is kinda silly[/b]. The name is silly. I don’t care if it’s been used for 156 years. That’s my opinion. You clearly don’t like my opinion, but I don’t care. July 4th isn’t officially called July 4th. It’s known as Independence Day. Your just upset that you didn’t come up with Freedom Day. Ha![/quote]

Obviously I disagree, but hey that’s why this country is great. I can express my opinion (even if it flies in the face of tradition) and you can say you don’t like it. You can even call me a “rando” and call my ideas “generic boringness” if you like, and I can call you “unimaginative” and a “follower” if I like.

So let’s celebrate our freedoms on “free at last, thank God I’m free at last” day. Now, we still need holidays for March, April and August. Any thoughts? Easter and Good Friday are too religious, so they are out.

Some ideas: 
March 4th - U.S. Constitution Day (the day it went it effect)
[b]April 9th - Union Day (the day Lee surrendered to Grant)[/b]
August 26th - Suffrage Day (19th amendment passes - women’s right to vote)
