Fcps doesn't need to follow Montgomery cnty on anything. FCPS will look to MEDICAL experts at CDC, and then the subsequent VDOE guidance. What makes the most sense is that unvax'd kids don't need to mask IF community transmission is below XX. If community transmission is high, then either the adults/older kids didn't bother getting vax'd, or the vaccine isn't working on a variant. But, I'm pretty hsppy to live in a county where most people are getting vax'd....and that should allow greater freedom for younger kids re: masks.
Vaccinated teachers should definitely not be required to wear them. WTH!!!
What are you getting worked up about? I never said vax'd teachers should wear masks....trying reading what was written.
They are for summer school. And nothing has been said about dropping it for fall.
We don’t have to wear them when outdoors, so I can see the indoor requirement dropping by the end of summer. ES Teacher
But for recess kids then have to be 6’ apart. We know now that’s nearly impossible.
PP By “we” I meant vaccinated staff. If a sixth grader is vaccinated and outdoors at recess, then the student isn’t required to mask within 6 feet. How close are we to getting those younger than 12 vaccinated?
We are averaging about 3 cases per day in Fairfax County. First a kid has to find one of the 42 currently infected people (roughly) in our county of over 1.1 million people, then they have to catch COVID, then they have to be able to actually spread it. Pretty sure people could make stronger arguments for masking kids against the flu than COVID for this upcoming school year, and CDC already said don't do that.
This area will be in masks forever. You would have to travel to the far corners of the world to find a case and we will still have masks on here.
