These threads area always such a good reminder that DCUM is not close to real life and the responses are self-selecting. Everyone wants to come in and gloat about their high NW and their basic cars. But we all know that's not the normal reality out there in the big world.
Basic cars ARE the norm for the high net worth crowd though. Most of the people with higher end vehicles that I know are leveraged to the hilt.
I work with many many people who make from $500k to over 7 figures. They do not drive 5 year old Toyotas. most drive BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Tesla. A few have more unique taste specific vehicles (F250, Alfa Romeo)
This thread is so old I may have said this before, but this is true, every high income professional that I know drives a great car. Every rich business owner I know drives a nice car. Several business owners who have kids basically have fleets of great cars, vintage Jag, Audi A6, 7 series, G wagons. There apparently is a secret undercurrent of wealthy people driving ugly cars with poor handling front wheel drive and without the latest safety features. Why would anyone want to live that way.
You keep saying income and not net worth which makes me think you work in some sort of super appearance-oriented sales environment. The highest earners in the US statistically don't drive flashy cars: https://www.investopedia.com/articles/managing-wealth/022817/which-cars-and-trucks-do-wealthy-americans-drive.asp
Your article is about high earners not high net worth. It also says that many people earning over 400k favor favor trucks, Land Rovers, BMWs X5, and Lexus RX while some prefer simple less expensive cars. Where are these statistics about rich people don’t drive flashy cars?
