Cap One. Never get a job there in the beginning of a year. Bonus issue. Vacation days seems to have be a disconnect between recruiters and employees. Yearly reviews, 20% of employees are made to be below standards, means no bonus, or lower bonus, possible layoff, etc... FSA as an administrator tries to deny claims that are legit medical expenses. HR stinks period. Employees were told work from home til Jan 2021 and that at least IT will not be going back ever.
Interesting. Do you work there? My spouse does and several of these things are not in line with our realities. If you do work there, are you sure you aren't exaggerating for effect?
NP. There’s some exaggeration going on for sure. The 20% comment is in reference to the forced curve. It’s true that there’s an attempt at forcing a bell, but you have to be pretty bad to end up in the bottom. They don’t force good people into the 20% bottom, and it’s usually pretty “self correcting” - there’s almost always 1 or 2 people who fall in that category, and no one does the math to confirm whether that’s 20% or not. If there isn’t anyone they talk about the bottom performers and try to suss out who is the weakest and shouldn’t get a “meets expectations”. It’s harsh, but it’s also really not that unfair. Anyone who ends up in that bucket IS underperforming their peers by a wide margin. I’d argue is more unfair is the folks who barely miss “Exceptional” or “Very Strong” for the smallest of reasons and lose out on bonus. The vacation thing I don’t get. Everyone I know takes as much as they want. No one ever calculates anything Re Jan 2021, Whats been communicated may vary by department perhaps. In general, there seems to be consensus it’ll be a while before they reopen. Source: 11 years at company
Um, I am a people manager there and have been forced to lower ratings during calibrations and to drop people into the “inconsistent” category which negatively affects merit pay and bonus. These were not bad performers just average performers in a bad performance system (even GE pulled out of this performance system and they created it). Upper management usually chooses the easy targets to drop into inconsistent (think white males) as they are going to get the least amount of blast back for doing so.
If you are a woman and honest over here, you would know the kind of sexual harassment goes around at CapOne.
