New Berlin, population 39,740. Mostly white, Republican-voting suburb. 7 polling places. Milwaukee, population 595,351. 39% Black, 15% other POC. Heavily Democrat-voting. 5 polling places.
Just a guess--but New Berlin is in a different county. Polling places rely on volunteers (they are usually paid--at least, in Virginia--but the pay is pitiful for the hours involved, no one does it for the pay). It is possible that New Berlin has more people willing to work the polls. I know that Fairfax County puts out requests for people to work the polls and they don't always get a wonderful response. I've seen requests go out almost up to the polling day--but it does require training.
You are right in that it is a guess, but you guessed wrong. This is what is called voter suppression. It happens in Ohio, throughout the south and in Wisconsin. Have easy access to polling places with many voting machines in white, suburban areas, but few polling places with fewer voting machines in densely populated urban areas. There is a reason you see these huge lines every 2-4 years on TV. The media go to where they can get picture. And picture of people standing in lines is sexier than an empty parking lot with no lines. There needs to be federal standards as to the number of people per precinct and the number of voting booths (not machines, thank you) in each polling place. States need to make mail-in ballots and early voting a regular practice. Without voting that is accessible by the electorate, we aren't much of a democratic republic.
+1 What’s wrong with you, 9:44? You are watching OPEN, NAKED voter suppression: they’ve admitted it. And you’re trying to make excuses for it. I don’t expect you to admit this on here, but please admit to yourself that this was purposeful voter suppression done by the GOP.
