Doesn’t Sidwell help get into Ivy League schools?
Not necessarily. Ivy admissions are not a given for any of the Big-Three. Not as many GDS students get admitted to Harvard as the school’s reputation would suggest.
Neither school is the deciding factor for elite college admissions - that is primarily the result of the parents’ pedigree. Both schools have a disproportionate represents of parents from elite colleges, hence their admissions records. Self selection is always a strong factor in preserving the status of the elite and thag is exactly what the Big 3 is about.
This is true. Kids get themselves into top schools with a combination of track record and the secret sauce. Having that is one of the hooks to get into the private schools that care about this particular statistic (many don't). Over the years you notice that whatever HYP admissions say they are looking for in candidates, the private schools start culling the heard for those same things (note the new addition of crew to certain schools). When HYP wanted well rounded, so did these schools; when HYP wanted "pointy" kids, so did these schools. Not all of the students; just enough to have those high HYP admissions stats. It's what they are evaluated on.
