Could "creepy smart" equal "forced into regimented learning at a young age?" Because, I don't think your "creepy smart" kid crawled (oops, sorry, I'm sure they were walking at 6 months) over to the book shelf, pulled down a volume of Shakespeare and taught himself iambic pentameter. A parent pushed early reading. Nothing rong w/ that. My preschooler was reading too. I worked with her. But, that doesn't mean she was "creepy smart." Yes, our kids are bright and receptive, but the early reading is because we taught them early, not because they are "creepy baby genuises.
I'm not the PP that you are being rude too, However, I think that your attitude show ignorance of what truly high IQ kids are like and what they need. They aren't pushed by parents and they often are not successful in normal school environments. They can shut down or act out because they are intensely bored. They can be intense perfectionists and delve so deep into something that they have difficulty functioning. We had a neighbor whose 5 year old was a musical prodigy. The way she played was shocking and amazing. There is no way that this level of ability had anything to do with prep. If the above poster practiced for 10 years straight, she wouldn't play as well as this kid did. However, since the child was Asian-American I'm sure that some parent out there is dismissing her ability as just prep practice.
Sorry, you are wrong. I do know what a truly high IQ looks like. My kids has one (tested by NIH). I also don't put a ton of stock in the whole IQ thing anyway (neither did the nih doc). You also have no idea about my kid's level of musical talent. You really just don't know what you're talking about. No one is trying to take away from talented or bright or gifted kids. Just recognize that a certain group puts a lot more educational investment in their kids and wants everyone else to think that means they are smarter. It ain't necessarily so.
