Here is the trend though - BRYC and McLean falling Mid Atlantic ECNL U13 points VDA 30 Loudoun 12 BRYC 9 McLean 3
We'll get a better idea next year whether there is a trend. McLean and BRYC are strong in the oldest age groups and VDA dominates two youngest age groups. If the youngest age group teams for BRYC and McLean flop next year and VDA adds another strong age group, we can start acknowledging the shift in power.
A shift in power ??? Having a good team at u13-14 does not mean you will be good at 16-19. McLean and BRYC are going to bring in players at those age groups. Both of those clubs have connections with top colleges, national teams and are killing it u15 and above. Please don't be so Naive. U13-14 VDA Parents need to watch the older age groups.
Totally agree U15+ BRYC 106 points VDA 29 points That is a monumental gap. Good luck.....
The situation is completely reversed in the younger age groups, where VDA teams are consistently strong and BRYC teams are pathetic. When U19 age group graduates next year, BRYC will lose 31 points and VDA only 5. Without the graduating teams, the clubs will be separated by mere 8 points and if VDA brings a strong incoming class, they will easily pass BRYC in total points. As for connections to national teams, you are naive if you think that BRYC offers a good pathway. Your best chance to get a call up is to join a DA club.
Clearly have very little knowledge of the ECNL. The u19 age group is comprised of 2 age groups 18/19, so depending on how many players BRYC are graduating they could be even stronger at that age... VDA will do fine but just need to lay low for a while. Should not be in the same conversation as McLean and BRYC right now
I agree that McLean and BRYC are stronger than VDA at the moment, but you are missing the point. All age group move up one year, U17 will move to U19/U18, U16 will move to U17, etc. BRYC has strong teams in older age groups and weak teams in younger groups so they will lose at least one strong team that reached the college age. For example, their U14 team that is dead last in standing will become their U15 team. Unless they add a strong team in the youngest age group, their total points will drop. Given the record of their young teams, it is unlikely. VDA is the opposite, they will lose their oldest team, which is very weak, but they will retain all of their strong teams, because VDA is strong in the young age groups. So next year, there may be a shift in power if VDA adds a strong team in the youngest age group and BRYC does not. Time will tell.
Your logic there ignores a couple of factors that have tended to keep BRYC and McLean teams strong at the older age groups. The style they play, the quality of coaching at the older ages, and the fact that they continually draw in players contribute to those clubs having an upward trajectory from u16 to U18/19. There are more draws now though and no doubt additional factors can occur that may make it hard to generalize about the future.
Very true!
