Also former va state prof here, and fcps teacher - have to disagree on one count.  For education, GMU is the best choice by far.  Much better than UVa.  GMU's programs are integrated with fcps.  Graduates from GMU are familiar with all of the current practices in fcps.  UVa teaches practices that are generally not popular in fcps and surrounding counties.  Even if the education itself is higher quality, and the practices taught are better, when you go to the fcps interview and they ask you how to teach reading, and you answer with your UVa knowledge, it's not going to be what they are looking for.  Learned that lesson the hard way.  GMU all the way if you want to teach in Northern Va.  They even place their teachers here for their student teaching.  [/quote]
