Or maybe acdc
I was wondering about this group--what is their makeup? What is their position on schools? Do we need to start lobbying them? I know nothing about them except they were handing out Gutschall flyers at the caucus which irritated me.
I think it's great you want get involved, but there are decades of entrenched interests you'd be fighting. You're against affordable housing? You are obviously racist. You want to give land to the schools? Why? Most people don't have kids in school. The schools get more than their fair share. No one runs against affordable housing. And huge capital projects aren't popular re: streetcar. Good luck to you.
I'm against affordable housing because of overcrowding issues -- we can't even educate existing kids in our county, let alone other kids that would be brought in with additional affordable housing. If that's racist, so be it. Why would no one run against affordable housing when this untenable situation exists? Anyway, this is all probably pie in the sky as you point out.
I'd vote for you too, but if you ran against AH, you might not even be able to run as a Dem. In this county, that's a death knell. I'm totally with you on AH: while I'm generally in favor, it has to be in a responsible way that makes sure it doesn't overwhelm existing institutions. Similarly, the SFH development should be checked as well. I live on one of the many, many split lots that used to be one home for a retired person and now is two homes full of children (3 for me, 2 for my next door neighbor). I'm not trying to pull the rope ladder up behind me, but a call for planning and foresight could certainly be construed as such. My husband and I are both liberals and registered Dems, and I can't even talk to him on this subject because his liberal sensitivities, god love him, push him to support as much AH as will fit because poor people have a right to live here too. The PP is right that you would be up against entrenched interests, and trying to woo voters whose "team" is telling them to support what you will be opposing.
