The parent just thought it was weird that clubs would want their August birthday kid to play on a team with kids a grade younger in school[/quote]Lots of rules can seem weird when you are not privy to how to run things or all the background issues.  But once someone in the know points out why age dates are what the rules are based on and grade doesn't matter, then smart folks get it.[/quote]
No the issue is the parent thought it was weird for a club to put their kid on a team with players a grade younger in school. Thinking something is weird has nothing to do with how a rule is implemented.

The whole reason for changing from BY to SY is so more players can play on teams with other players in their grade at school. Except for young Aug birthdays instead of screwing them by making them play up in BY they get screwed by playing down a grade in SY.
