Let's be clear about IC E agents. Arrest Powers of ICE Agents Federal Felonies: ICE agents can make warrantless arrests for any federal felony if they have reasonable grounds to believe the person committed or is committing the crime and might escape before a warrant can be obtained.
There was no federal felony here.
Crimes Committed in Their Presence: Agents can arrest someone for any offense against the United States (federal crime) if the offense is committed in the officer's presence.
Parking in a street is not a federal crime. Even crossing against the middle line isn't a federal crime. These were city streets. Not the Interstate.
Immigration Enforcement Context: This authority is often exercised during the course of their immigration enforcement duties or as part of investigations into transnational criminal activities, such as drug trafficking or human trafficking, where subjects may be involved in both criminal prosecution and removal proceedings.
Parking and driving violations are not involved in immigration enforcement control.
Homeland Security Investigations (HSI): ICE's investigative branch, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), specifically focuses on disrupting transnational crime and investigates a wide range of federal crimes, including narcotics smuggling, money laundering, and illicit finance, and its agents have broad federal law enforcement powers.
They were not investigating transnational crimes. They were not en route to investigating any crimes.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents are federal law enforcement officers who have the authority to arrest individuals for serious federal crimes, including drug offenses and robbing a bank, under specific circumstances. Their powers are not limited strictly to immigration violations. That girl was impeding their work by blocking the road sideways through out the day.
False statement. You don't know how long she had her car in the road based on that clip. And she wasn't blocking anyone. The shooter Mr. Ross, actually drove around her when she waved him by. People drive around other cars all the time in my residential neighborhood for a variety of reasons. Technically is is illegal to have your car stopped in the middle of a road like that, sure. But it is not at all the job of ICE to go around dealing with parking problems. And they were NOT being blocked from performing their duties. If ICE are to be treated as legitimate federal law enforcemtn officers with authority that is to be respected, they need to have transparency and oversight of their officers. We need a full, impartial investigation and all evidence MUST be released. No coverups. We cannot have these thugs running rampant through our streets, pretending to be legitimate, unchecked.
