I mean, to add, how crazy this would be .. .It's like mandating like half of Jan b-days play up, well, just because.
It would be mandating that Aug and younger birthdays play with their grade. This is a very small percentage of the players. I would guess under 5%.
I'm watching this in real-time, as people struggle with what they should do. It's more than 5% at my club.
Yep, I know of several in this situation at my kids club as well. Playing up with their grade seems to be where the parents are leaning.
I wonder how many are going to change their tune based on tryouts and when they realize that their playing time will be significantly cut.
It also depends on if they see playing in college as a realistic option.
Sometimes college isn't on the table even when it's realistic. Teenagers have all sorts of different reasons for playing and reasons why they'd want to be on a certain team.
So obviously the logical thing to do is put young August birthdays on a team with players a grade younger than they are in school. This way they wont have to worry about playing in college because recruiters will ignore them because they're playing down a grade. Totally makes sense.
Or they play in their correct age range at the younger ages recieve all the benefits that go along with being on a first team, and post puberty when the age advantage is diminished realign with their grade based team. This is for families to choose, not some internet warrior.
This sounds really on target. Leagues and teams must create guidance for this. Play on age and if you are good enough, play up. Wait, my bad, they are already doing this and have always done this.
