After her parents divorced she was the  main caretaker for her two younger brothers, but she always had a dream of coming to the USA and becoming a big superstar.  At 15 she formed a girls group and they performed anywhere they could.  Record exec Evan Rogers was vacationing in Barbados, heard the girls performing and decided that Rhianna was a star.  Evans invited Rhianna and her mother to come to the USA so she could make a demo.  Two years later Jay Z heard her demo tape and signed her to Def Jam. At that time Rhianna's mother allowed her to move to Connecticut and live with Rogers and his family. Jay Z did not "take her away from her family".  :roll:  [/quote]

Her mother could have been invited to stay with her or Rogers could have provided a place for them to stay as well as enough money to live on.[/quote] She came to the USA on something called an O-1 visa, which is often used by celebrities.  It requires you to demonstrate extraordinary ability or achievement in your field. Neither her mother or two younger brothers would qualify for this status.   You are talking about a woman who had been abused by her crack addicted husband and was living in poverty with her three children.   A woman who had flown several times with Rhianna to the USA to see her record her demo and negotiate a deal to be signed to Evan Rogers publishing label. And then later to be signed by the biggest record labels for R&B music at the time, Def Jam.  She saw an opportunity for her daughter to escape her circumstances and have a real chance at pursuing her dream. [/quote]
