I am totally against H. The only way to defeat H is to convince the BOE that Wootton should stay Wootton and that doing so is in the best interest of the Wootton Community and the MCPS. I am not hearing that, not even from Wootton parents. If the name does not matter, and the "W" school status does not matter and the historical legacy does not matter, then the argument against H becomes fragmented and weak. Some parents want things to hang on for a couple of years, so their kids can graduate, then they don't care, Others are ok with shipping some neighborhoods other than their own to other schools. This is not a unified message. If the BOE floated something like this for any of the other W schools you would see that school's community in unified, absolute opposition. The Wootton community is in an everyone for themselves mode where portions of what the BOE is doing, are ok, as long as it does not affect them directly. Travilah and Dufief have been going to Wootton for decades and people are tossing them around like excess baggage. So now the name does not matter, the legacy does not matter, the "W" school does not matter, and it is ok to jettison a couple of elementary schools from Wootton. And that is the starting point of our argument? Not very compelling.
Mt.Prospect which is down the road from QO and goes to Travilah is 4-5 years old - they haven't been going to Wootton for decades. If anything, MCPS should rezone them. Just because they paid a million and a half does not mean they get special treatment.
Where would they go? QO and its countless portables are way overcapacity.
Here’s the thing: we will never get reasonable boundaries because MCPS is too scared of communities like Potomac. That’s just the truth. You talk about Mt. Prospect… did you know down the round from them is Stoney Creek. You want to guess where they go? Churchill lol. They are closer to BOTH QO and Wootton but they go to Churchill. I’d love to see MCPS do a real boundary study, but they are too scared to do the right thing. So let’s pick on Wootton instead!
