I’m honestly asking because I do not know. Please someone explain why FCPS is different than LCPS with regard to scheduling? Why do Fairfax schools need to play in these weekend or spring break “tournaments” instead of just scheduling normal games like Loudoun schools. It doesn’t make sense to me.
VHSL allows a maximum of 15 regular season games. (Used to be 14). LCPS Atheletics is budgeted to fund the associated costs to cover 15 games (re: Refs). FCPS only budgets for a certain amount of games, and schools that want to play more, up to 15 often do so at these Spring Break Tournaments. Also, some schools only schedule 13-14 games for different reasons, like small rosters strength of program and "liked skilled" opponents.
But question is: why does FCPS not budget for more than 9-10 games for lacrosse (esp if other LCPS can do it). And FCPS doesn't do that for field hockey (for example) - full 16 game season there...
The comment you’re responding to literally says up to 15 games. Who in FCPS is only playing ten? And why do you think that’s a FCPS thing and not a school specific constraint?
Key word is "budget", never said playing. Most FCPS teams have scheduled 4 (or so) "tournament" games (i.e. weekend games at Robinson, South County etc.) to get themselves up to target of 14 games for the season. They do this because FCPS has only "budgeted" (i.e. will pay for refs) for 10 (or so). Teams need to pay for tournament themselves and tournament fees cover refs.
My son’s school plays 14 and has no tournament. They also had scrimmages with refs. Not sure you have the most accurate information.
This is completely accurate. If your sons plays for an FCPS school and is playing 14 games without a “tournament” they are violating FCPS rules.
