The boundary decision doesn’t have to be finalized until June because of the clever opt-in policy. But they’re going to have to make a bus decision soon. Without knowing that, 8th-grade parents are going to have a really hard time deciding on a high school for their kids.
It is almost like they want failure. Here is the way it should work: Delay/halt comprehensive boundary study--adjust schools in emergency situations now--like Coates. Set boundary for new high school ASAP. Too many variables to open the school like they are planning. Way too iffy. Staff school with full options of standard and advanced academics for 9th and 10th grades. Be sure and get good music and drama teachers, as well. The facilities should be very attractive to them. Staff school with a crackerjack athletic director who should immediately hire coaches. Open school next year for ninth graders. Too late to make tenth graders attend, I think, but that is what they should have done. Following year, open with 9-11 Then, four year high school. An additional program is okay if it is subservient to the traditional school.
