I remember the Iranian-backed Hezbollah terrorism of the 1980s, the 1994 suicide attack on the Jewish community center in Buenos Aires, the 1996 Khobar Towers bombing. I remember Terry Anderson and Terry Waite. I remember that al Qaeda members, including Osama bin Laden’s son, were given sanctuary in Iran after 9/11.

Any American over 50 knows who started it. The claim that Iran is the world’s No. 1 state sponsor of terrorism is more than words. It strikes deep. The Islamic Republic has waged war on the West and Western values for half a century. The Foundation for Defense of Democracies keeps a handy tally of Tehran’s long and bloody résumé. DP.  Your timeline is a lie and you know it. How convenient to start it at 1979. Why not start it when the conflict originally started. Maybe start with 1951 when the Iranian people democratically elected Mohammed Mossagedegh and tried to take the countries oil assets back from thieving UK. The UK did not want to pay Iran 50% of their own oil and wanted to control it all. The nerve. The UK convinced the USA to help them take control of Iranian oil by ousting the democratically elected president, and with the help of the CIA and Teddy Roosevelt's son overthrew the democratically elected Iranian leadership and installed a puppet beholden to the USA and UK called Raza Shah Pahlavi. He was a brutal dictator propped up by the USA and UK. You complain about the murderous current regime, and make no mistake, they are murderous, but you advocate for the installation of a regime that is not any better. However, they will bow to USA, give us their oil and allow their people to continue to suffer and starve. So no, the conflict between the USA and Iran did not begin that horrible day at the US Embassy in 1979. It began when the CIA overthrew the democratically elected president and murdered him in 1953.
