Well I'm in Del Ray and U can say that most of the area isn't that impressive. However, considering surrounding area like Vienna, Falls Church, Burke.. we could do a lot worse in the area!!! Arlington is def cool but really you're only looking at Clarendon. The restaurants are just OK. DC in general I think is more interesting but compared to NYC, Chicago, Miami, you are joking that it's a top city. It's all relative really, around here I couldn't be happier geographically living elsewhere because of the proximity to Old Town Arlington DC. But if u has a choice, I'd be in an actual city. On the topic of the stadium, I think it's a bad move for us locals but a practical decision by Ted. Not sure how much $$ he'll make but if the teams are good, I think people will show up. There's a ton of mediocre restaurants and I'm always surprised how people flock there. I really think that people will do the only thing they can if no other choices. I think it's a huge devastating loss to DC but they messed up. I think this will ultimately happen in PY though I don't have every confidence it'll be awesome, I do think it will work for Ted.
I have to disagree on a bunch of those points. Sure, Clarendon has some good restaurants and things but it's a fcking mess in every other way. Traffic sucks, as does urban planning and there's barely any green space to break up all the concrete. As for DC's status as a city, I'd agree NYC gives it a run for its money on theater and other things but then it drops off fast. Beyond the Met, what world class museums does NYC have? Most of the handful of others like the Guggenheim are barely an hour or two's worth of visit. I mean, Cloisters is cool, Morgan is cool but then what? Many of them don't even have reserves or rotating exhibits, you see it once and it's done. And sure, there's Broadway but man, so much of that's gone scammy and overrated as well. As for your other cities, Chicago, Miami... are you fzcking kidding? What's so damn special about those. Go see the Bean and the Museum of Science and Industry, pass out on a slab of that cheese casserole they call pizza in Chicago, so what? Ay, cuban sandwich and salsa dance in Miami! Don't trip over the dead body in the parking lot tho. As for the stadium, look man... these guys are paying hundreds of millions in contracts for players. LUDICROUS that they then come to us taxpayers and tell us that we have to cough up billions to build a stadium for those overpriced players to play in. If Virginia's a big enough sucker to pay for it, so be it. For me so what - it's like 20 minutes further on the Metro if they end up at Potomac Yards. I don't feel a pressing need to pay 2 billion for that. And oh, 2 billion is only the starter. It will be a lot more. Need we remind you Ted is already a billionaire.
You can't possibly claim DC has more status than Miami as if Miami is all Cuban sandwiches and salsa. Go to any trendy neighborhood in Miami and you will find delicious world cuisine with few chain restaurants. You need to dress fashionably and be in decent shape though, probably an issue for DC people. There are also nightclubs people around the world flock to but DC types wouldn't know how to even get in (no one there cares about politicians). Their art festivals are also more relevant than whatever DC puts together with its lack of any sort of creative class. There's a reason people, businesses, and sports teams are leaving DC.
Sorry but who cares about any of what you said?
Probably no more than the 50 pages of DC posters hoping someone takes their complaints or predictions seriously. I just needed to let pp know they were way out of bounds thinking DC is even in the same league as Miami. You don't see Miami sports teams moving up to Jupiter, FL which is basically what is happening to DC here. But enjoy your fancy lunch burrito at your newly developed Moe's.
