Power washing: No sarcasm, but rather people are not seeing the broader issue. An objective of some is to have The Wootton name go away. Once it does, no more "W" school, no more historical achievement, no more pride of being part of a Wootton community. Other items that are important to people can still be partially salvaged, but Wootton will be history and a large part of what makes Wootton what it is will also be gone. If that is OK, then fine, but it seems be a huge concession from which to try to salvage something.
The one thing I kind of see now about the Wootton name going away is that MCPS is indeed proposing the school to close. And if they are, then they need to go through what was outlined in the previous post. It seems MCPS is trying to circumvent the process by saying they're taking all of Wootton and moving them to the Crown location. But if they start taking in and adding feeder schools, basically makes it a different school then what it was before. So they in essence, closed the previous school. Then if they change the name too? That's definite that Wootton closed as a school. But in terms of history and tradition? Maybe it's because our family is not in Wootton yet and don't know of it and appreciate it yet. But I grew up in the area and don't really know of anything about Wootton having a rich tradition that is important to the students. There was this article a while back saying how the trophy case was in bad shape but the article didn't really quote any students saying how much it mattered to them or anything: https://woottoncommonsense.com/1515/news/online-exclusive-trophy-case-in-disarray/ If you told me it was a big deal to QO or Northwest, or some other school that was a powerhouse for a good period in anything, sports, arts, academic contests, etc, I'd probably understand. And can understand if it's important and sentimental to the people that earned those awards and trophies too. Maybe I'll make sure to stop by and take a look to see what's in there next time I'm at Wootton. And I'll qualify all of that with admitting maybe I'm not that much of a sentimental person to begin with. So maybe I just don't get it.
