I’m a casual swifty and am so surprised to see people defending this album so strenuously. Like any album she drops will be successful because she’s Taylor swift that doesn’t mean it is any good. Every song is like a worse version of something else she’s already done.
Agree. I do like some of her songs. But now I am realizing she worked with producers who made her sound good. So, did I like the producer's work or Swift's work? I don't know anymore... "Fate of Ophelia," for example, has bad lyrics but a good melody. The melody likely came from Max Martin, who has developed music for Spears, Grande, and more. He is a pop expert or pro or whatever you want to call him. He has been nailing pop music for ages.
Well all the great musicians are helped by collaborators, producers, etc. - no one goes it alone. You kind of have to earn your right to work with Max Martin and Shellback at this stage of the game. I give credit to Taylor for making it to the point where she can just call them up have them help her produce an album. But I agree with you that they are hit makers. As soon as I heard that she was working with them again I was excited, especially because I’m such a fan of Rep and 1989. They do great work. I like the things she’s done with Antonoff and Dessner, but it was time to go in a new direction.
