City budgets are spent on Sanitation, Education, Public Safety, and Infrastructure (such as roads, schools, parks). Yet we elect mayors that “inspire” us or debate their positions on international affairs. Things that a mayor has no impact on. Most humans are just dumb, we need technocrats as mayors. I miss Bloomberg, you could literally see the improvements made to the city week-to-week, everything was getting cleaner, parks improved etc. I could have cared less if he was pro Israel or Palestine, it wasn’t his job at that time nor should it be.
Mamdani has stated repeatedly that his focus will be on NYC. He can't do anything about the fact that everyone keeps questioning him on irrelevant foreign policy stances. Almost like they want to distract and divide. 🤔
Let’s be honest here. Anyone pushing communal housing on current privately owned property is guilty of creating division. This is AMERICA, not RUSSIA or CUBA.
Let's be honest here. The cost of housing has exploded largely because we have a parasitic rentier class using the basic need of housing as an investment vehicle. The person suggesting we put a stop to such exploitation is not the divisive one. Landlords offer no value. They are an unnecessary middle man. And communal living is a more sustainable and economical practice, and it harms no one to make it available as an option for people looking for affordable housing.
Paid or not, you are Mamdani PR team. “LANDLORDS OFFER NO VALUE” is exactly the anti-American propaganda he pushes.
Well, they are not wrong when it comes to NYC. There is a parasitic rentier class that uses real estate in Manhattan as nothing more than investment vehicles. The Times had something a while ago that showed how one-third of all apartments in Manhattan are empty. Take a look at the Time Warner building or Hudson Yards or 432 Park Avenue after nightfall. They are empty. A lot of Manhattan exists simply as a place to park money for wealthy non-residents. I don't care for Mamdani, but I do think NYC should tax the hell on speculative residential real estate. It needs to be discouraged, which will open up more apartments to actual residents and lower costs.
Most of that is international money. We should restrict international investment in real estate before we go to extreme lengths on domestic investment. Just stop the Russian $$ from buying real estate.
Sure, but Schumer and Gilibrand are as all in with dark Russian and Saudi money as the Trump family. If you don't think establishment Democrats are as corrupt as Republicans, I welcome you to look at the sources of Pelosi's wealth.
