So glad to see that so many on this thread have kids who are leaving the east coast for college.
?? what's wrong with the east coast?
+ 1
Nothing. I just like seeing kids who want to explore other areas of the country and abroad.
Yes, Evanston is extremely different from a DC suburb.
It may not look it, but the Midwestern mentality if completely different -- from someone who has lived in both places.
Yes, but this is a semi-rich Chicago suburb. Peoria it ain't.
Never said it was. But the difference between Chicago/Evanston and DC/McLean is huge. I grew up in one and now live in the other. The East Coast and Midwest are two different mentalities.
How so?
Let me count the ways.... OK, I can't count them all. The Midwest moves at a different pace than the East Cost. Not better or worse, just different, slower, more relaxed, in some ways. It's just as petty and awful as the East Coast in many ways too, but if you prefer the East Cost vibe and pace, you won't be happy in the Midwest. It's all about personal preference. Northwestern is a great school, and Evanston is a nice town. It's not anything like McLean or any of the DC suburbs. You just have to experience it to understand. I've lived in the Midwest, and I know I prefer the East Cost. There's lots to love in the Midwest, but it's not for me.
