20:26 again. I agree with you it's better just to sit quietly and refuse to respond to the slings and arrows. But it's still a no win situation for them. Everyone likes to push the princess off her pedestal, so I guess it's unavoidable. Hard to shed too many tears for the princess though.
This thread was actually started to have parents post results for ED of their children. Not sure who the OP is or from what school, but since that is the title and point of this thread, please feel free to go to another one if you don't want to read what parents are posting.
Dense.
Well, that was a useful comment. So for any other SFS parents still on this thread, 7 kids so far got into Yale today and 6 or 7 into Penn yesterday, plus so many other great schools. Obviously the counselors and the school is doing its job, and the mix of kids who got in is reflective of the mix at Sidwell, which is great!
Blech. Amazing that adults are doing what their children are mature enough NOT to do. #MoreEmbarrassingSidwellParentPosts
Not sure what you mean. Kids from all the schools are all over FB and Insta announcing decisions and saying congrats to one another. The whole point of this discussion is posting results from your "DS or DD school"... which kind of implies that a parent is asking other parents to share how their kid or kid's school did. I guess you must be one of the few parents that picked a DC private for other reasons than trying to get your kid a great education but also to get them into a good college? Why are you bothering to read these and comment? P.S. My guess is that some of these posts are from kids and not parents, as with lots of other threads on DCUM. That's mature too.
I understand the line of argument "if you don't like these posts, don't read the thread" -- generally a reasonable counter -- but I do think there is a philosophical argument that is interesting here. I assume many people would agree that there is a lot of angst over college admissions, and many also agree that the laser beam focus on the Ivies and a few additional schools (such as Stanford, MIT, Duke, Chicago) can ratchet up the pressure and (a) obscure the fact that there are many wonderful colleges; (b) help set a standard that a student (or school, by extension) is not really successful unless the student is admitted to a college ranked in the top 10. Threads like this -- which excitedly post each day's returns at Sidwell Friends from the Early Decision sweepstakes -- certainly contribute to a climate that many people in the abstract purport to decry. And the fact that Sidwell parents in particular seem to be going in for this in such a big way may say something too, although I'm not sure what (Sidwell parents frequent DCUM more than others? Sidwell parents are more focused on Ivy acceptances than parents at other schools? Sidwell parents like to brag more? The Sidwell community wants Ivies and is okay with owning that that's what they want and not being shy about chest-thumping? Sidwell parents got tired of stupid insinuations that Sidwell didn't have good college matriculations because the school doesn't post a matriculation list? Take your pick.)
