Stats is a really complex subject, and these systems are designed by Nobel prize winners because it's really hard to make them work fairly and equitably and all that. Most people can understand basic probabilities, but when it comes to situations like these, with multiple iterations, multiple choices, and differing options for each player in the system, the complexity increases a lot.
