11/18/2013 I had the Implanon removed and the Mirena inserted in one office visit. The Implanon removal did not hurt at all, but took some time because of the fat that had developed around the Implanon. Then it was on to the insertion of the Mirena. OUCH!!! There were three parts to the insertion where I experienced pain. 1) The measurement of my uterus with a long plastic stick that's inserted into your cervix and on to your roof of your uterus. 2) Some type of clip is placed on my cervix and that hurt even more, but subsided after a few seconds. 3) Then the IUD itself. It was passed into my uterus and when the applicator was withdrawn and the IUD more or less popped into place, there as a massive pinch followed by a cramp/contraction of some type. That was the worse. But it was over. The strings were immediately trimmed and the forceps to open my vagina was removed very promptly. There was no unnecessary pain. Each step was anticipated as they verbally walked me through each step as we progressed through the procedure. I was not nervous or fearful. I felt the urge to poop and I asked the doctor if the device would come out if I pushed out a bowel movement. He said that was highly unlikely. My body was reacting to this object. I also felt a hot flash. By the time I got up from the table I was feeling relatively normal without any sharp pains. When I left the clinic, I took 300 mg of Ibuprofen at 4PM. I had already taken 750mg (a pill in a half) about 20 minutes before I went to the clinic at 2PM. Around 6PM I was feeling uncomfortable so I took another half pill, 300 mg and felt better shortly thereafter. I went to the nail spa and sat in the spa chair for a leg and back massage that are included in the pedicure, and I drank a cup of hot decaf coffee. Then I went home feeling like my pain was in control. There was reddish/brown discharge. 11/19/2013 I had mild pain overnight. Changed my position in bed and layed on my belly to feel better. It worked. When I woke up to start my day 8:30, I had another decaf coffee with a small meal and an 800mg ibuprofen. I went back to bed for a little while to make sure it had kicked in. About one hour after taking the ibuprofen I was pain free 10AM. My period is more or less due because it has been more than a month, but I have not started it yet... I noticed an increased amount of clear discharge this morning. There was some light brown mixed in with it. 11/22/2013 Has been the worst day yet as far as pain management is concerned. The last two days I have been able to manage with little ibuprofen, but today was unbearable. I pooped three times starting this morning and the last BM after I had a large quantity of green tea just before going to the gym. I could not even finish my work out. All of a sudden I was hit with an unbearable wave of pain in my lower right side. I got off the stair stepper and I had to go sit down!!! I then proceeded to the restroom and sat their complaining to strangers in the bathroom for about 15 minutes until I finished pooping. Then I mustered the courage to go and get in the Jacuzzi to help with the pain. It helped enough for me to float out to my car where I found a 600mg (ibuprofen) and a half and I took it immediately. I'm in bed now with pain and it all started at about 10PM. It's now almost 2AM and the pain is BARELY starting to subside. I don't know why this bout of cramps is so much worse than anything I have felt in the past days since insertion. I have even worked out (HARD) for an hour and 15 minutes in the park and I felt NOTHING. This feels like the start of a miscarriage, which I have experienced in 2009. I'm going to take another 800mg. I am willing to tolerate Ibuprofen-managed cramping for 7 consecutive days outside of normal menstruation time, but no longer. I can't see myself taking Motrin everyday to keep this thing in. That can't be normal when Ibuprofen have adverse effects when used constantly... Monday can't get here fast enough... Waiting....

:) :) I am happy to report that since this post quoted above, I am having very light and short periods with my Mirena. I check it monthly around the same time to make sure it is in place and good to go and so far so good. Having it since November 18, 2013 I find that my biggest complaint, if any, are the OCCASIONAL cramps that I may experience about roughly four times a month as my hormones are shifting gears. These particular cramps last about 30 seconds tops, and they range from mild to sharp. They are usually on my lower left or lower right side. I experienced this the day of placement, so I know it's associated directly with the Mirena, plus I did not have this before. All in all, I am happy that I have the Mirena. No pill to remember, light and brief menstrual symptoms, and all I have to do is make sure it's in place by checking the strings once per month. I would advise all ladies to continue using [b]condoms as a means of STD protection if you are not with him exclusively, and of course there is no substitute for a good old fashioned trip to the local clinic for an STD test. Mirena is designed to prevent pregnancy, not STD. Other than this, I am signing off ladies! I am glad I have a Mirena. :) :) Too bad this is not more readily available to women in developing countries where they have little or no choice when to get married and/or start having children. If only the Universe was more fair.
