And also, why did I just say mom and not parent?
How about whether to hold an A meet on July 4th, simply because it's a Saturday, or do the right thing and have the meet on Friday the 3rd?
Pools are running meets on national holidays?
Wait until I tell you about the baseball and soccer tournaments on Memorial Day. You’ll be shocked that an event from 8:00 to 10:30 am would happen on July 4th.
Not the best comparison given that many places have parades, etc. on the morning of July 4th. Our swim team always participates in our town’s parade and building our float, etc is a highlight of the summer. Plus, with Memorial Day sports tournaments your whole weekend is already shot. You are also playing on Saturday and Sunday. Moving summer swim meets to the morning of July 3rd lets families that want to get out of town for (most of) the long weekend do so while still making the meet. Hard to see any good reason not to move meets to July 3.
Also worth noting that Memorial Day tournaments are voluntary. Teams choose to sign up for them. Many teams choose not to so as not to impact the holiday weekend.
…also worth noting that swim meets are voluntary…
You seem obsessed with having meets on the holiday. Fits the title of this thread. Good to see that many teams are taking the more rational approach and agreeing to move to July 3.
Quite the leap to get obsessed here. Are you familiar with the 4th of July Vienna Relays? A meet run annually on…no, you’ll never guess when.
Never heard of them. We will be spending July 4th with our kids on the swim team float at our town parade and then at our pool’s 4th of July party (which starts at 10am, right after the parade).. We are quite happy that our meet was moved to July 3 to allow our swimmers to participate in these fun annual events.
And I’ve never heard of a town parade in NVSL territory 🤷🏽♀️
Fairfax and Great Falls both have 4th of July parades. So do a number of neighborhoods in Arlington.
I know of the Fairfax City parade. Fairfax City is a city- nobody that lives there would ever call it a “town parade”. And again, there are no towns in Arlington, so I was asking what town has a parade.
Great Falls literally calls its 4th of July events a "hometown celebration."
NP. Do you not get the difference between a city marketing team’s marketing and what people actually call things in real life?
