Is there a language arts equivalent for error analysis? DD is already in 3rd grade advanced math, didn't get in AAP for second time trying. Going to try appeal. Trying to think of all the creative little projects she creates at home with paper. I'm also amazed at the things she creates in Minecraft. We only just bought an iPad for her to use when we let her, and she loves building houses and whatever other creative structures. But I'm not sure the panel would be interested in or impressed by digital samples.
Do you have any writing samples from this year? Either handwritten or on her school Google Drive? If she's already getting advanced math, then that's been established (especially if her Performance Matters assessment scores have been high)/easy to establish. She's needing the documentation that she can/needs more in Language Arts/Social Studies/Science.
Yes, her teacher said she submitted writing samples as well. Not sure what the HOPE ratings were, so I just requested her packet. I have a feeling we're in a competitive pyramid based on other people's comments. She also has trouble finishing work on time in class. We're considering going to pediatrician to ask about ADHD.
It's too late for this, but my kids used Reflections (PTA art competition) entries for language arts samples. It's nice because the kids have to write up how the entry relates to the competition theme as part of the entry, so the whole idea of having your kids write about their sample is baked into the competition by its nature. Otherwise for any sample, our AART always said have your kids write a couple sentences describing it.
