My kid's English teacher took forever to grade papers. This is a self-selected profession. Don't become a highschool english teacher if you don't want to grade papers.
same , my daughter ended up with C, and had missing work she had no idea she was missing.
I don ‘t know your daughter, and I know many teachers have bad grading habits so I wouldn’t invalidate her claim, but many students will lie about the circumstances and throw their teacher under the bus so they won’t get in trouble. Today, one of my students told admin I had reduced her final grade from an A to a C because of a summative grade I entered yesterday. Even if I had done that, did admin stop to consider there is no possible way she would know of such a change since the gradebook isn’t open to students? Or that her grade has been a C since the beginning of January,? Of course not. I had to use my planning period to meet with admin to explain myself. What irks me is that I deliberately haven’t graded any summative work since the last week of January so students (particularly seniors) wouldn’t receive an “unpleasant surprise” they couldn’t remedy before the end of the quarter. The truth is that I was very generous with this student. She turned in a couple of poorly written and incomplete (1/4 complete) assignments that were due in December. i gave her partial credit for the work and her grade went up to a B. I try very hard to be fair to the students with their grades and with late work, but enough kids will lie about their situation to the adults in their lives, that I always end up looking like the bad guy.
