Some people like to spin up drama. Sometimes for political motives. Sometimes they’re just mental.
But what's the motive here. I really don't get it. Did their kid not get in like the HB haters? So they say people don't want it? But to what end? Kids of STEM focused kids and parents of kids who want a smaller school will apply. That's a clear fact as the waitlist has grown over the last three years. And here's the rub: It will always be a smaller school b/c the CTE and labs take up so much space. Maybe that's why? The poor, teen moms and Brown people are getting something nice and they focus instead on the AT kids? I really don't get it and hope it's not just "drama". If that's it why aren't they in the politics or relationship discussions?
It is not a good look to say that the Langston program doesn't deserve the nice new building too. Looks like opportunity hoarding. Or I don't want THOSE kids around my special snowflake.
F the good look. Why can’t people be honest? There are several small programs. One has students in ankle bracelets who are avoiding jail for very serious crimes. I think that one is the concern of AT parents (should be). Another is one where kids were relentlessly bullied and the like, they are in a small family-like atmosphere school in which the students are thriving with very high staff to student ratios. The latter heavily opposes being moved. Then there are the teen parents, they don’t really need a separate program administration. They need support, daycare and grace with deadlines. There are also the older teen and adult English learners who cannot pick up English like the teens who are dropped into mainstream with support.
So just to get this straight you're fine with the ankle bracelet kids being near the vulnerable kids who were relentlessly bullied and the teens parents and the EL learners as long as they are not near your own kid?
Please post your kids’ schools so we can send the “ankle bracelet kids” there, if you claim you’d love that. You are a liar. The students in that program have convictions for serious drug charges (not “just” possession), serious violent assault charges, and serious weapons offense charges. And you are trying to shame other parents for not wanting them?
Just wondering again why you're okay then with them being around the kids who were bullied?
It’s w supportive program, meaning there are intense supports and extensive supervision when needed
All those supports/supervision would transfer with the program to the Career Center. So what's the issue for you?
Career center is a large school that has students from all the high schools coming and going all day, it’s not the same.
But how is that relevant? Same question. The supports transfer so what difference does that make? This really boils down to you don't want those "bad" kids with your kid. Just admit it.
No AT parents are saying that. You are saying that AT parents are saying that. Engage the facts.
If it's not AT parents, then WHO exactly is objecting to those kids coming over to the Career Center? Identify yourself! Where do your kids go to school now?
UPthread. The people with kids AT LANGSTON. Why do I continue to engage a dirty under bridge troll?
No it's not the people at Langston or at least not only them. There are people or at least one person objecting to brining over the ankle braclet kids - their word- to the ACC.
As a parent of a jr., I don't think it's the AT parents. We chose a school with teen moms, a MIPA program, CTE kids, and Arlington Academy kids (who are often over 18) and it's great! Also, I'm involved with their version of the PTA and we have nobody saying that. So again, not an AT parent.
The Arlington Tech Advisory Committee (ATAC) has had several meetings to discuss concerns about the proposed plan and the lack of details. I know a couple of staff members there and they have concerns about the new plans as well. It's not just about the uncertainty with Langston but other issues as well, including having two separate pathways and administrators in one building.
There was a post on Facebook by an Arlington Tech parent complaining about it. So yes there are AT parents who don't like it
Where on FB?
the new AEM group whatever it's called i think. or maybe the other arlington group. it was a few weeks back.
Wow - I haven't looked on there in a loooong time. I see APE is still doing its thing. Vomit. Looks like a few people with ties to AT in the past were speaking about the Langston program? Langsplaining perhaps?
Are you referring to the teacher who worked there for years (and has sent at least 1 kid there?)
