Hunter - why name your kid that??? West Sequoia
I like Hunter. I like Harper, too.
Hunter - kills animals Harper - harpie/ harp on smth These are the associations I have with these names, but I'd like to change my perception, esp. since they're becoming popular. I would really appreciate someone chiming in and giving me the background of these names, or more positive associations. I'm not being derisive - just an immigrant with ESL.
Hunter is a clan name in Scotland. It's not that unusual to see it as a first name for boys in areas of the country that have a big Scots or Scots-Irish population. (That's why people here are calling it a redneck name.) Vice-President Biden has a son named "Hunter." Hunter S. Thompson is a famous writer who created "gonzo journalism." There is a college named "Hunter College." "The Heart is a Lonely Hunter" is a novel by Carson McCullers. Also, hunting is a common sport in the United States. You may find it repulsive, but most Americans probably do not. Harper is a person who plays a harp. Harper is the first name of Harper Lee, the author of "To Kill a Mockingbird." That novel is much loved. There is also a college named "Harper College." There are several towns in the US named Harper. Sorry, but I wouldn't chose a name based on what an ESL speaker thinks.
