She told my parents that if the test results were shared with the school, I'd get pulled from my mainstream class and put in a small class. My mom said the doctor's words were "she's not short bus material" and "it'd be different if she was low-IQ and struggled to read or write."

I've found so many other adults my age who were diagnosed as autistic and/or ADHD/ADD later in life. And their parents have similar "we thought/we were told...but didn't want the official diagnosis on record" stories.

The instances of autistic people has not increased. The testing and ability to recognize it has, which is why it seems like so many more people are autistic or have ADHD these days. [/quote]
