Whoever created the topic is clearly misinformed.
I’m with you, but I think the rapid growth of GA teams in the area is going to leave some of those teams (especially TSJFC and Alex) more like a RL team than a GA team. I’m a GA fan, but I would have preferred my DD play for a couple of local RL teams this season than for TSJFC. They were just that bad.
GA teams are clubs 1st team ECRL teams are clubs 2nd team It's this simple. ECNL parents are trying their best to equate GA with ECRL to elevate themselves. People aren't buying it. ECNL parents are getting desperate.
In this region right now you need to buy it. Maybe over time GA separates from ECRL but it wont be this fall. The player pool in the area is the player pool. Just because there are five brand spanking new GA teams does not mean they all have access to a new set of players. VRSC and SYC GA teams today aren't better than the top RL teams like Strikers, Arlington, and VA United, and they won't be tomorrow either. CISC because of timing of their tryouts before the announced GA is bringing ECNL teams pretty much intact to GA. NVA maybe in some age groups will have teams of mostly former ECNL players. Making CISC and NVA likely top of table. The rest, Loudoun, Alexandria, McLean are pulling from the RL player pool to fill out their new GA teams.
Agree there are ECRL teams that can beat some GA teams. There are also ECRL teams that can beat some ECNL teams. But the GA league is generally a more competitive league than ECRL.
The only people who don’t think GA is better than ECRL are RL club coaches and directors who are worried about losing their top players. No one is leaving GA to go to an RL team.
Yes in theory and in most of the country, but in the short term where are these five new GA teams filling their rosters from? They are not coming from ECNL teams, so for most of these new teams, in the short term, they are filling their rosters with ECRL level talent. Heck, today TSJ is a lost cause, and SYC and VRSC GA teams are maybe on par with top ECRL teams.
Where are the GA teams filling their rosters from? First, there are now two less ECNL teams than there were just a couple years ago. The best from those teams have all collected to the few remaining ones, but the rest of the former ECNL players went to GA teams. The GA teams are all competing to get those ECNL dropouts. The rest of the GA teams are former ECRL players.

Exactly - there simply are not enough ECNL caliber players to fill five new and 8 total GA teams in the DMV. Most of those eight clubs rosters are ECRL caliber.
Right so if the better RL players move to GA, where does that leave RL? With a mix of lower level RL players and third team players.
You guys are over thinking this. The DMV player pool has not changed. You can call clubs or leagues whatever names you like. In the end the DMV will still produce the same number nat team, P4, D1, D2, D3 players as before. And here’s the little secret nobody likes to say: The same players would play at those same levels no matter which club or league they joined. Talent is talent. If you don’t have the talent you ain’t playing and chasing clubs and leagues will not change that.
Kind of true kind of not true. If there's more clubs there's more opportunities for players with talent to be identified. Which translates to more top players. Also with multiple leagues competing for talent it forces clubs to develop rather than just recruit talent. Which also translates to more top players. I know this is hard for the ECNL hats who are used to being the only option available for high level play + were able to put together top teams by just recruiting.
You make these statements as if they are proven facts (more talent identified, clubs develop talent) when they are really just a theory. My theory is this: Talented players in the DMV are mostly born with their talents and develop it themselves along with considerable support from their parents. Therefore they will end up at the same place no matter which ECNL/GA club they play for. I'm not saying this is a good thing or it works this way everywhere in the world, just that is how it works here.
Sounds like someone cut or didn’t pick your little Suzy for a team. Players are developed in the DMV.
Sounds like you're trying to sell parents on coming to your club. Take all the players committed to D1 schools this year. You could have moved any of them to any other ECNL/GA club in the DMV and they'd be in the same place. Truth is most of these players have been at multiple clubs during their "development". They are where they are because they put in individual work at home and with trainers outside their clubs.
What about the players that don’t go to individual trainers? Not everyone can afford that.
Working on your own is the most important part. If you can't afford trainers there are resources out there for free on youtube that would work. But let's face it just about every girl D1 commit in this area probably had extra trainers. They were also able to afford the fees and travel expenses for ECNL or GA. Soccer around here is a pay to play sport. It sucks.
In what part of America is not pay to play?
Exactly. Everything is pay to play not just kids soccer. Capitalism at it's finest.
