They market themselves as a soccer club: that is rec and travel.

Rec sports orgs make a lot more off a rec soccer player's fees than they soend on that player. The surplus is used for admin costs, rainy day funds or to float less profitable other rec sports.

Do the math. An NCSL rec team. 17 players each paying $200 for a season of rec ($3400). They don't get turf practice space-grass fees are basically free. Volunteer coach is free. NCSL charges $100 per team. The only other cost is referees for 4 home games, say $150 per game. Huge profit to the rec league. [/quote]
