I left a cart full of groceries last month and haven't been back because the worker said they were unable to open a normal manned checkout for me. I had a full shopping cart and there was no way I could do it at the tiny self checkout. There is hardly enough room at my store (4 self checkouts, 2 on each side) for 2 carts to check out at the same time. I needed to pull up an empty cart to place my bags in after doing the self checkout and there was no room. So I left everything and told her sorry, but no thanks.

If stores want to swap to more self checkouts, they need to do like Walmart and designate some full sized belts as self checkouts.

My local Food Lion had so much self checkout theft that they took them out. My CVS store remodeled to add 2 self checkouts, but they always have them blocked off because of so much theft. Probably wasn't the smartest to put the 2 self checkouts closest to the front door. [/quote]
