[/quote] Oh, I just reread your post - you are correct, Italy doesn't "offer citizenship" based on heritage. It recognizes your citizenship. If you can prove that you have an unbroken line of citizenship from an ancestor who was an Italian citizen and who never renounced their citizenship before the next ancestor in line reached the age of majority - you can apply for them to recognize your citizenship. There are some complexities - it isn't always straightforward, and a lot depends on what year your ancestor got married and so on since citizenship laws changed between 1865 and today, both in the US and in Italy. So it isn't easy. But for some people, we can get our Italian citizenship recognized.[/quote]
