80s were fun! And race relations were great then as reflected by appreciative pop culture. America was a big hug. The only thing we had to fear were the Ruskies, and yes, that was scary but it united us .[/quote]

Was also the decade of AIDS and gay people were heavily discriminated against. There’s that heart wrenching story of the woman in Little Rock who took care of more than 1000 dying AIDS patients whose own families disowned them and had no one else to be with them on their deathbed or claim their bodies for burial.
