Obama's mother was American and met his father, a foreign student from Kenya, when they were both in college in Hawaii. "Obama's parents met in 1960 in a Russian language class at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, where his father was a foreign student on a scholarship." His mother went on to earn a doctorate. His father was not present in Obama's life: "I didn't really know my father—he left my mother and me when I was two years old, and only traveled from Kenya to visit us once, when I was ten." Obama Sr. left Obama and his mother back in Hawaii and moved to Boston where he got a graduate degree at Harvard and then returned to Kenya in 1964. [/quote]
They went to college. It doesn't make them an "academic".   Next thing you know, you'll be calling Trump an academic because he has a college degree.
