Funny that in the same thread, people complaining about doctors firing patients with 30 days written notice also say that doctors should just strike.
It's not about reason, facts, or logic. It's about emotion. Many people -- rightfully so! -- are angry, and scared, and feel betrayed by a system they feel should be there to take care of them in crisis. This is compounded -- rightfully so -- by watching the growing disparity between what they have and what is provided to people with more wealth through concierge medicine. The gap widens. Unfairness is the salt rubbed deep in that wound. I'm a doctor. I HATE this. I'm a patient as well, with multiple critical surgeries behind me. I did an additional degree in philosophy (medical ethics) and went to work in Canada for several years to understand how that system works from the inside. I don't know how to fix this. I've tried -- the best I could do is find a salaried position where I can give the best care I can and be supported when needed for my own medical issues. It's an f'n mess, guys. The only ones cheering for this are the insurance companies with their record profits, and their shareholders.
